Another great package both vinyl and gloss cover in great shape.
Playing a duet with any other acoustic instrument and a hammered dulcimer is an unequal contest. The other player may modify the sound somewhat, but the ringing tones of the dulcimer will definitely lead. This is by no means always a bad thing, as shown by Two for the Road. Robin Petrie is an excellent and sensitive player, and she leaves room for Carnahan's mandolin and fiddle while making the most of the lovely tone of her instrument. Indeed, tunes such as the traditional "Strayaway Child" set the clear tones of the dulcimer against the note-bending violin in a way that accents the best qualities of both instruments. Though most pieces are Celtic instrumentals, the version of the old Scottish shanty "The Diamond" stands out for its lyrical vocal delivery. The music on this album adds a hint of Appalachian lilt to the Scottish pieces that are the backbone of their repertoire. Carnahan and Petrie were both in top form on this album, and it is a recommended buy.
