Including some of the best singles of their career, this companion LP to This Nation's Saving Grace is just as essential as the album proper. Confidence ripples off the grooves of this record, from the shuffle of "Couldn't Get Ahead" to the swagger of "Cruiser's Creek." This is the sound of a band at the height of their powers. Since the 1960s, it's been a tradition in the UK to leave singles off the LP and let them stand in their own light. Thus, some of the best songs the Fall released in 1985 were not included on the LP, rendering this singles comp absolutely necessary and far from a footnote. The inclusion of tracks from two 1985 Peel Sessions on side two shows why they were John Peel's favorite band of all time. I could go on here, but is any higher praise than that really needed?
