Brand new sealed triple album housed in a gatefold cover.
Flattery will get you everywhere, especially if you are Mick Jagger who tells the adoring audience in New Jersey how fantastic they look… but if you look at the Rolling Stones, they are definitely not too shabby themselves. The stylish rock ‘n’ roll stalwarts have been rocking for over 60 years now and ‘GRRR Live!’ is certainly a celebration, recorded during their 2012 One More Shot show in Newark.
Intended to toast their 50th anniversary year, the show has an ebullient feel. 50 years is synonymous with gold and this is certainly a glittering golden performance from the Stones that shows their musical prowess and stage presence.
Remastered and remixed, this collection of live tracks unequivocally delivers on the description that this body of work is their definitive Greatest Hits live collection. Truth be told, this isn’t just a fantastic compilation of the band’s classic hits, but a barnstorming performance of some of the most iconic songs in rock music. There’s also a couple of deep cuts in the mix such as ‘I’m Going Down’ from 1975’s ‘Metamorphosis’ and ‘One More Shot’ from the original ‘GRRR!’ album in 2012.
However, as well as one of the greatest groups of all time, you also get some pretty stellar collaborations too in the shape of The Black Keys who tear up the floor with Bo Diddley’s ‘Who Do You Love’, John Mayer and Gary Clark Jr, Mick Taylor, Bruce Springsteen and Lady Gaga who gives a truly powerful performance on ‘Gimme Shelter’ singing like her life depended on it.
The Boss and New Jersey’s very own hometown hero Bruce Springsteen shines on what is the standout guest performance of the night -‘Tumbling Dice’ from the bands most critically-acclaimed album ‘Exile on Main St’
This triplealbum also serves as a very fitting tribute to the impeccable drumming from the late great Charlie Watts whose stirring work elevates exemplary performances to an even higher power of the Stones to ever-greater heights.
‘GRRR Live!’ has further cemented The Rolling Stones’ reputation as one of the best live acts of all times as well as being one of the most memorable shows in the band’s history.
